For $60/night, we got full hook-up and the horses each got a large paddock.
Campsites were fairly close together. No picnic tables, but there were fire rings. Most of the sites are pull-through, so large rigs wouldn’t have issues.
The big selling point of this campground is that it is right next to the Ocala National Forest. You can access the trails directly from the campsite.
The trails are flat and sandy.
Several of the trails took us through or next to large swampy ponds. We had to go through the water, but it wasn’t that big a deal.
Ari’s big complaint was the number of banana spiders on the trails. These spiders spin their webs across the trails. Their bite is similar to a bee sting and they are HUGE. Ari is not a fan and ended up carrying a small plastic handle to remove webs as he encountered them.
We saw deer on the trails as well as this fellow. The horses were very careful not to step on the turtle.
I made the mistake of going outside the trailer in flip flops and my bare feet were immediately attacked by fire ants. Florida is not for people who can’t tolerate critters.
This next week we get to reunite with our sons and their families. Our horses get to spend the week at a local boarding stable called Harmony Ranch. This is one of the few stables close to Disney World.
The horses are sharing a large pasture and get a week off from trail riding. Hopefully, they won’t drop any weight. They are only about ten minutes from the campground where we will be staying with our son, Daniel, so we can always swing by and check on them if the need arises.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ari!!! Have a great time with your family and your wintertime in Florida. Wendy and Steve
