This is our second stop at Horseman Haven. Larry and Jenny are such fabulous hosts and we love the hot springs here, so we decided to spend a few days here on our way back to California.
The horses shared a large paddock with shelter while we got full hook-up ($25/night for the trailer). Horses are $20/each. There is also a lovely cabin available for rent.
Larry and Jenny have decided Lava Hot Springs is getting too developed, so they are looking to move to Oregon. This property is currently for sale. I have lost count of the places we have stayed which have sold or changed hands during this trip.
I booked us massages at the Lava Hot Springs Inn and Spa (about ten minutes away). The place has a shabby chic vibe going on. Included with our massages was a free day pass to their hot springs (normally $18/person). This was a great deal.
There are five or six different pools - all different temperatures - with amusing names, like the Lobster Pot and Redneck Sweat Lodge.
There is a taqueria next to the inn and the food there was really good and inexpensive. Our passes allowed us to come and go, so we had lunch next door, soaked in the mineral springs, went back to the trailer to feed the horses and relax, then returned to the springs in the evening so we could admire the stars as we soaked.
Our last day, Larry took us out on some local trails. The trails are beautiful and we rode up to a lovely vista point to admire the views.
