Lily Glen Equestrian Campground is a primitive campground located about 30 minutes outside of Ashland, Oregon.
For $26/nite, you get trailer parking and use of two horse stalls.
There is plenty of room for large rigs, but no hook-ups and no RV dump. There is an outhouse.
There is a single water pump, but no way to attach a hose, so we are using our water transfer pump to pump water into our trailer, so we can shower and do dishes. Ari pumps water into a large bucket, hauls it to our trailer and then uses the transfer pump to put the water into the trailer.
There is a mounting block for wheelchair riders.
The trails are extensive. If you ride around the lake, it will take you at least six hours and there are other side trails as well.
There are free range cattle wandering throughout the park.
You can see the lake in this picture.
The trails are mostly through the forest and are well maintained. Not rocky at all. Some up and down, a couple of water crossings, but I would say fine for beginners.
Our friend, Bob, dropped by a couple of hours after we arrived. We have known Bob for almost a decade. He used to live close to our home in San Jose. Now, he lives in Cambria, CA, near Hearst Castle. He had been visiting family in Vancouver and was driving back to his home in Cambria. It was sheer luck that his drive home allowed him to stop and visit with us.
We enjoyed a lovely meal together at the campsite. I cooked some salmon that Elaine had caught when she was fishing in Washington state. Wow! Nothing like fresh-caught fish. It was so kind of Elaine to share her bounty. A cow dropped by (see the cow in the background) to see if there was anything for her to eat. She was more interested in the hay we were feeding the horses, but the horses weren’t sharing any food with begging cows.
This is our last stop in Oregon before we head into California. Next stop is Mount Shasta, and we are getting closer to home every day.
