This equestrian campground is located inside of Natchez Trace State Park. You can go directly to the campground, if you have a reservation. You do not need to check in at the visitor center.
The campsites are electric/water hook-up. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, pedestal grill, and lantern post. About $25/night for seniors.
Each campsite has picket posts, but we checked with the ranger and were cleared to put up our portable corrals.
Another option might have been to rent a box stall at $10/night, but all the box stalls were reserved during our stay. The barn with the box stalls is about 1/4 mile from the campground, so it worked out for the best any way as we prefer to have our horses close to us.
There is a main lodge at the campground with a restaurant. On Friday nights, they have an all you can eat seafood buffet for $17/person. This is Ari’s plate - and those are frog’s legs on the right. On Saturday nights, they do a BBQ buffet for the same price.
There are two swimming beaches and several lakes. You can rent kayaks or paddleboats for $12/hr. Temps were in the high 80’s during our stay and the humidity was around 75%. We did go to the swimming beach one afternoon. The water was pretty dirty, but we did cool off.
We rode almost every day of our stay. The trails were very pretty for the most part.
The Bucksnort Trail is the main trail from the campground and the best maintained. We tried several trails and there was mud, erosion, and downed trees on several of the smaller trails. The Back Country Horsemen need to come in here and work their magic.
The campground was not that busy during our stay. Not even half full. We really enjoyed our time here.
