Potato Creek State Park is a popular destination for equestrian campers. This may end up being our only campground stop in all of Indiana. Campsites provide hitching posts for the horses. So, we set up our portable corrals again.
The other campgrounds I had planned all are primitive and Ari wants electricity so we can run the air conditioner.
We had electric hook-up, shared water.
There is a camp host and she provided us with a campground map where she listed which sites have shade or sun.
We also got a trail map where she highlighted different routes for us.
We rode the yellow loop our first ride and the red loop on the second ride.
Trails are nice, flat, and sandy. There were some spots with lots of overgrown branches, but nothing too awful.
The bugs weren’t too bad. We did put on lots of bug spray and belly guards on the horses. Lennox did fine.
One afternoon, we went into the town of Bremen and visited the community pool. Temperatures were almost in the triple digits. It was nice to get in a pool and cool off a bit. With the humidity, both Ari and I were pretty sweaty. I am getting used to seeing Amish buggies parked outside of places we visit. In this case, two Amish moms were at the pool sitting in the picnic area while their kids played in the pool.
Lennox has an appointment on Tuesday with the Purdue equine cardiologist. I managed to find a private barn near Purdue University that will let us spend a night with the horses. They are located about 15 minutes from the veterinary clinic. We are spending the weekend at a horse motel near Indianapolis. Thunderstorms are predicted for the weekend, so we will spend the weekend playing tourist.
On Monday we will head to LaFayette, Indiana to be near the clinic. The appointment is Tuesday afternoon and then we will drive from the clinic into Ohio to get to the next campground. I am hoping that the vet says Lennox’ condition is minor and we will be able to stick mostly to our planned route and schedule.
