Well, we are in Pennsylvania and almost complete with the 48 states…unfortunately, we aren’t going to be able to overnight and ride in New Jersey or Delaware. There is one campground in Delaware - Fair Hill. I tried to stay there, but they have a monthlong equestrian event happening and nobody outside the event is allowed to book in. The only place in New Jersey that looked viable was Wharton State Forest - primitive camping, but it would have involved too much driving to get in there and back out. We still have Minnesota, Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia to go, but by the time we get to Florida this winter we will only have two states left - West Virginia and Minnesota. We will travel through these on our way back to California.
$20/night No electric, there is one shared water faucet for the six equestrian campsites. Campsite #4 is right next to the water faucet and the water tower. The water tower looms over the entire campground.
Standing stalls for the horses. There are four stalls at each campsite. You can also set up high lines or temporary fencing. We attach our portable corrals to the standing stalls with bungee cords and that provides our horses with some shelter as well as a run out. Public restroom. Main campground has shower house. There is a swimming beach as well. This would be a nice place to come in the summer.
Lots of trails. We are finally starting to see the fall colors that are so beautiful.
The park is adjacent to the Delaware State Forest and the Promised Land trails connect to the state forest trails. The Delaware Forest trails are a little bit rougher, but not too bad. Some bridge crossings and some rocky sections, but mostly the trails are fine for green riders and horses.
We rode the Hemlock Hills Trail, to Bear Wallow, into the Delaware State Forest, and then took the Lower Lake trail back into the campground. There are black bears in the area, but we didn't see any.
Good cell service and Winegard worked fine. They also have cabins for rent. There is an RV dump right before the equestrian campground. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, and a stand to hang a lantern.
We are also staying at Promise Land right now. We are camping in our favorite site right in front of the equestrian sites. I walked by your site with my dogs this morning and enjoyed seeing your boys out. There is something so comforting about a quiet, peaceful morning walk and smelling the scent of horses. Most people would probably find that weird.
I ride/show a Morgan/Draft Cross and she would be losing her mind over all the spooky sounds here. Your boys just kind of looked up at us and then went right back to eating.
Question…what is the box on the top-back of your rig for? Storage?
Enjoy the rest of your trip. I hope you enjoyed your time here at Promise Land.
