Bend, Oregon is an hour drive from the horse camp, but the camp still has a Bend, Oregon address.
The horse camp is primitive with no hook-ups, but they do provide decent sized pipe corrals. $23/nite. There is a large manure bunker and a single hand pump. There are out houses around the campground. This is a popular equestrian campground due to the fabulous trails. Campsites do have picnic tables and fire rings. No RV dump. You can find RV dumps at some of the sno-parks along the route.
Our friend, Elaine, has joined us and will be traveling with us until we move back to our house.
We did a three hour ride with Elaine yesterday through The Three Sisters Wilderness area.
The trails are improved from the last time we rode here. All the downed trees have been cleared and trail maintenance performed. I consider the trails intermediate level and technical. There are areas where the trails are narrow. There are a few water crossings and there is some and up and down. We rode our horses barefoot and they did fine, but there are rocky areas. Elaine’s horse, Chuck, is shod all-around. (All-around means shoes on all four feet as some riders just put shoes on the front feet.)
Because of the High Holidays, we can’t travel this weekend. So, we are leaving Quinn Meadows today to go to Collier Memorial State Park in Chiloquin, OR. Elaine is staying at Quinn Meadows an extra day or two since this is her first time here. She will catch up with us at Collier on the weekend.
