We did actually ride at Mammoth Cave National Park. It wasn’t all cave tours during our stay. There is easily a few days of riding here, but since I can only ride for a couple of hours, we didn’t see the entire trail system.
The trails are fairly well marked and well maintained. The trails were pretty muddy in sections. The farther out on the trails you go, the more challenging they become. We rode out about 2 and a half miles and started hitting the challenging part - steep, rocky, and narrow, and opted to turn back.
Because we had been turning out our horses, they had energy, but they didn’t misbehave. (Click to see some video of our trail ride)
The horses were pretty muddy when we got back to the campground. Luckily, the campground has some really nice wash racks, so we could hose them down.
This was our first stop in Kentucky. We are heading back down into Tennessee to explore the Natchez-Trace State Park.
