This is our second time at Willow Prairie and Elaine’s first time.
This is a primitive horse camp with no hook-ups. The horses are in nice secure wooden corrals. There are four corrals at each campsite.
The campsites are a little bit tight to get into…Elaine barely fit in her campsite, but her truck is off the road.
We did two rides in the Rogue River Campground. Lennox has been jigging on the trail, so Elaine offered to ride Lennox and try to school him a bit. I rode Elaine’s horse, Chuck, and Ari stayed on Mercutio.
We spent three nights at Willow Prairie. There is no RV dump. We checked the Shell station in White City which is about 30 minutes away, but we thought it would be a tight fit to get our rigs in there to use their RV dump. The camp host recommended the Fish Lake Resort, which is about five miles down the road from Willow Prairie. Elaine opted to go the long route through Medford and Ashland for our next stop at Lily Glen. We were able to use the dump at Fish Lake Resort ($10) and even were able to fill our propane tanks. I do not recommend Fish Lake Resort for trailers longer than 35’ as some of the turns inside the campground were very tight.
Because we have been boondocking now for a couple of weeks, we have been relying on our generator. This means our batteries have not been re-charging. The lights inside our trailer and the hydraulic lifts are sputtering if we don’t run the generator. We try not to run our generator too much because we want to stretch out the propane.
Temperatures have been dropping into the 30s at night, so we have started to blanket the horses.
